Otoplasty (ear setback surgery) is the surgery to pin back the ears of a child or adult if they are deformed or defective in some way. Sometimes this happens at birth, sometimes from an accident. This change from prominent ears is sometimes known as Ear Pinning, too.
At North Dallas Plastic Surgery (NDPS), for children with prominent ears, we have found it is best to delay surgery until the child is old enough to participate in the decision to undergo the cosmetic treatment.
Dr. Todd Pollock does this surgery comfortably and safely under local anesthesia and twilight sleep (with intravenous, or IV, sedation) even for children as young as 5 years old.
