Silicone and Saline Breast Implants – Dr. Pollock Helps Patients Choose What’s Best for Them
There are many choices a patient has when considering breast enlargement (or breast augmentation, as it’s often called) – one of them is what type of implant will be used: an implant filled with saline (salt water) or with silicone. Some may recall how silicone breast implants were taken off the market in 1991 because they were suspected of causing an autoimmune disorder. They also may know this was disproved and these implants have been returned to the market.
Both saline and silicone breast implants are safe and can produce an excellent result. However, each implant type has advantages and disadvantages that must be considered by the patient.
