What is liposuction? As you may know, it is a plastic surgery technique for removing excess fat from under the skin by suction. As Dr. Harlan Pollock and Dr. Todd A. Pollock describe the procedure to patients, the goal is to reshape certain areas of localized accumulations of fat. A cannula (which is a hollow tube) is attached to a vacuum pump, inserted through a small incision, and then fat is removed to reshape an area.
So liposuction is a contouring procedure but it is not a weight loss method. While traditional liposuction relates to the actual technique of vacuuming excess fat, over the years a variety of devices have been introduced related to this cosmetic surgical procedure – some of which are still used and many others discarded.
