Injectables in Dallas, TX

Repeated facial expressions can produce lines on the face as the skin thins with age. Men and women who are concerned about facial aging may consider addressing their wrinkles with non-surgical options.

Fortunately, minimally invasive injectable treatments are available to reduce the signs of aging related to muscle movement temporarily. As a less invasive and reasonably priced option, injectables are becoming a popular temporary solution to fine lines and wrinkles.

BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Jeuveau™ are neuromodulators that produce effective and affordable options for smoothing out the earliest signs of aging.

Am I a Good Candidate for Injectables?

All patients are evaluated personally by a board-certified plastic surgeon during a consultation where any questions or concerns are addressed. Techniques and limitations are discussed prior to treatment.

Injectable treatments with neuromodulators have limitations and do not work for wrinkles and lines not related to muscle activity or drooping tissue. A thorough evaluation by an appropriately trained professional is vital to receive the best results possible.

For instance, BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA approved for treating frown lines around the eyes but is sometimes used for off-label areas such as the forehead and crow’s feet. Additional uses of BOTOX® include the treatment of excessive sweating and migraine headaches.

Risks involved with these treatments are rare, and side effects tend to be minor and temporary.

What Is the Process?

Injectable treatments typically begin with icing or applying a topical anesthetic to numb the injection sites, as desired. It takes a few minutes to complete the procedure after cleaning the injection sites and marking the muscles to be treated.

The toxin is injected strategically into (or very near) the muscles in question, using a very fine needle. A small level of discomfort is associated with the injection. Results can begin to be seen within four to five days but can take up to two weeks to become fully apparent.

Only physicians should perform injectable treatments.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is derived from a purified form of Botulinum Toxin A. When properly used, it is safe and effective in selectively paralyzing certain muscles used for facial expressions. This process temporarily minimizes or eliminates facial wrinkles by relaxing the muscles through blocked nerve transmission impulses.

We use a concentration of 2.5 units/0.1 cc, which is a proven dose for maximum effectiveness and longer duration. Some physicians sell inexpensive treatments that are often diluted formulations of the product. Diluting the treatment simply shortens the lifespan of the results.

Dysport®

Dysport® is a similar Botulinum Toxin-derivative and is produced by another manufacturer. This neuromodulator is injected in the same way as BOTOX® Cosmetic and is appropriate for minimizing lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines).

Jeuveau™

PrabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs, or Jeuveau™, is another injectable option to address moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows known as glabellar lines. This treatment is sometimes referred to as “Newtox.” Unlike BOTOX®, Jeuveau™ is only approved for cosmetic uses.

What Can I Expect During My Recovery?

After your treatment, you may notice redness, bruising, localized discomfort, and swelling in the injection areas, which usually resolves within a few hours. Rashes can occur but are very rare.

An inadequate response does happen sometimes, but patients should wait two weeks before retreating treatments. Weakened or drooping eyelids is also an infrequent complication. If this occurs, prescription eye drops can be used until the drooping goes away. Other possible side effects may include infection or tenderness.

You should avoid rubbing the treatment area for a few hours following injection, as this may cause the toxin to move away from the muscle being treated. Try to limit physical activities and apply a cold compress to the injection site for a short time after treatment.

Alcohol consumption should be paused before and after treatment, as it can cause vasodilatation (flushing), that can wash the toxins away. While an injectable party with alcohol may seem tempting, it is not a great idea if you want to encourage the best and longest-lasting effect.

Patients should remain realistic about their results. Remember that injectable treatments are temporary and can only affect wrinkles and lines associated with muscle movements.

What Results Can I Expect?

Your face should appear significantly smoother and tighter. Most patients see results for three to four months after their treatment. Additional injections can be administered as needed to prolong the outcome.
