Chin Augmentation in Dallas and Allen, TX

Model

Having an underdeveloped chin doesn’t just impact the jawline; it can affect the balance of the entire face. By accentuating and building on a receding chin, your facial profile can be altered significantly for better harmony and proportion.

Chin augmentation is a relatively minor procedure in which the prominence of an underdeveloped jaw is accentuated with a solid silicone chin implant.

Chin augmentation can be performed alone; however, it is often done in conjunction with rhinoplasty since a balance between the nose and chin are important to facial beauty.

Am I the Right Candidate for Chin Augmentation?

If you have a weak, receding, or asymmetrical chin, Dallas chin augmentation may be a suitable plastic surgery solution. Some patients seek this procedure after a disfiguring accident or to adjust a birth defect.

Good candidates have healthy teeth and a normal bite. Both men and women can benefit from chin enhancement surgery to create more angular and defined chin projection. Candidates should not smoke, be in good overall health, and have realistic expectations for their chin augmentation results.

How Is Chin Augmentation Performed?

Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty, is typically an outpatient procedure. Dr. Pollock will make an incision inside your mouth or beneath your chin to insert a firm, rubbery silicone implant. This implant will be positioned and secured onto the chin bone before the incision is closed.

If performed on its own, local anesthesia with light sedation is used. When combined with other cosmetic procedures, you may be placed under general anesthesia. Either way, you will require a friend or family member to drive you home after your procedure.

Chin implant augmentation takes about one hour.

What Is Recovery From Chin Augmentation Like?

You will be advised to keep your head elevated and sleep facing up for two weeks after your procedure. You may need to stick to a liquid-only diet for a couple of days before moving to a soft-food diet.

Pain and downtime are minimal. Prescription or over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses ease most discomfort. You can return to light activities in about seven days and strenuous activities in about three to four weeks.

When Will I See the Results From My Chin Augmentation Surgery?

Following chin augmentation, patients develop a more pronounced chin that better supports their facial structure. In addition to better symmetry, a defined chin can highlight all of your facial features.

There will be initial swelling that distorts the appearance of your chin. However, you will have a better idea of the final results by the end of the first month.

Final results are visible in a few months after all of the bruising and swelling have subsided.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chin Augmentation

  • How much is chin implant surgery in Dallas, TX?

The cost of your chin augmentation is dependent on the extent of correction needed and whether or not any other facial surgeries are being performed in conjunction with your chin implant, such as rhinoplasty (nose surgery), otoplasty (ear surgery), or fat transfer/fat grafting. Additional cost factors include anesthesia fees, facility fees, and surgeon fees.

  • Is a chin implant right for me?

Chin implants are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and you will be able to find one that fits with your natural chin bone and facial proportions.

  • What procedures can be performed alongside a chin augmentation?

The cosmetic procedures you and your surgeon decide upon will depend on several factors:

    • Your primary complaints about your appearance
    • Desired results
    • Facial anatomy
    • A holistic approach to the balance and harmony of your features and facial proportions

Often, patients are not sure what type of plastic surgery is suitable to attain their aesthetic goals. You may be unhappy with the size of your nose, the shape of your face, or what your neck looks like. A skilled and experienced board-certified surgeon like Dr. Pollock can help you identify the specific look you are searching for and choose how to best achieve it.

You may benefit from rhinoplasty, facelift surgery, or facial or neck liposuction along with your chin augmentation. Facial procedures can often be combined into one comprehensive surgical treatment.

  • Is there a non-surgical option for chin augmentation?

While some patients can increase the volume and projection of their chin using non-surgical methods like dermal fillers or fat transfer, patients with significant asymmetry and weak or undefined chins often benefit most from a chin implant. This option is not only permanent, but it offers the most correction.

For patients who do not want or need a permanent chin implant, injectable dermal fillers can add temporary volume (which can be repeated as necessary) and fat transfer can use fat that has been taken from elsewhere on the body to add volume.

  • Is chin augmentation painful?

Chin augmentation is performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Because of this, there will be no pain during your surgery. Patients commonly develop some discomfort once the anesthesia wears off, which would subside gradually. Pain medication, cold compresses, eating soft foods, and getting adequate rest can help lessen any pain or discomfort associated with chin implant surgery.

  • Will I have scars after chin augmentation?

While incisions are necessary for chin augmentation, they are either concealed beneath the chin or within the mouth. Because of this, scarring is not typically a concern following chin implant surgery.

  • Will my chin implant move out of place?

Because chin implants are very carefully positioned into a created pocket on top of the natural chin bone, they should not move out of position after they have been placed.

  • How long will my chin augmentation results last?

Silicone chin implant augmentation is a permanent surgical procedure. The results are expected to last throughout the rest of your life. This is different from injectable dermal fillers—a temporary non-surgical chin augmentation alternative that lasts about nine to 14 months.
